On October 23, Apple lost an important case for them in United Kingdom, regarding app store developers. The London tribunal ruled that Apple overcharged developers for years with unfair commissions. In response, Apple said that it will appeal the case, saying that the court “takes a flawed view of the thriving and competitive app economy”.

This has been an ongoing case since 2023, when App store developers were dissatisfied with Apple due to their abuse of the app store commissions, in which Apple charged more on in-app purchases and app purchases, giving Apple more money than the software developers. According to Reuters, there “ was a difference between a 17.5% commission for app purchases and the commission Apple charged, which Kent’s lawyers said was usually 30%”. This is seen as a win for Free and Open Source software, as Apple takes a hit, losing a lot in revenue and potentially allowing open source to take spot where Apple used to be.
