Apple has just announced a key shift in its business plans, which leaves out its longtime asset of Japan and replaces it with other Asian countries.
The technology giant announced on a report on the Japanese Nikkei that it will completely cancel all imports of LCD displays with OLED.
OLED displays are far more advanced than their LCD counterparts. It provides a more dynamic experience, with improved color ranges, brightness, and stronger sharpness. This new display will make watching high quality videos much more ideal in the small handheld devices.
However, this display change has one key drawback: Japan. For the past decade, several Japanese technology manufacturers such as Japan Display and Sharp Corp. These companies alone comprised of over 70% of Apple's total display imports, helping the companies prosper and drive-up growth for the Japanese index fund, the Nikkei. Without LCD imports, the Japanese technology market will fumble.
Apple expects to obtain OLED displays from the Chinese company BOE Technology and the South Korean company LG Display, which are the most formidable competitors to the previously mentioned Japanese display companies. These displays are expected to be produced at a much cheaper rate than Japan, too.
