In a way to get big tech interest, Argentina, through companies like the state-owned company INVAP, is currently constructing an SMR, to make a solution for the high demand of electricity in the state. The nuclear reactor will be used in AI datacenters. If the construction is successful, Argentina will be the first country to have a commercially available SMR, and the third to have an SMR in the country, alongside Russia and China.

The cause of this is that Javier Milei, the current president of Argentina has expressed interest in technology, through his interest in Silicon Valley companies like Facebook and Tesla. In May 2024, Javier met with big-tech CEOs like Elon Musk and Mark Zuckerberg to try and get Big tech onboard with the plan. So far, there hasn’t been any major announcements from the companies about their interest with these plans.
If this goes according to plan and progress is made, Tech Companies in the west will receive major advancements in the field.
