Bronxites across the borough are not pleased with Trump's plan to cut the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) funding by approximately $300 billion.
Bronx County is considered the poorest county in New York State, so the reduction of the financing is especially hurtful to places like it. The reduction affects farmers, who sell their produce in the Bronx and rely on people buying it with SNAP. New York representative and Bronx native Ritchie Torres decried the plan, citing the fact that people across the country are already in poverty, and that it would only worsen their situations. He is not the only one sounding the alarm on this. Farmers and other officials have pushed for further dialogue and a fight against the plan.
The resistance to the plan may ultimately prove a problem for what Trump wants to do.
