Ottawa has vowed to retaliate if the United States adds tariffs to Canadian imports. Canada's Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance, Chrystia Freeland, has stated that Canada will respond accordingly if it happens. This could come from export taxes on Canadian goods to the United States, affecting both economies. However, this is not a unanimous decision as both the premiers of Saskatchewan and Alberta object to such a plan taking place, as it would affect their economies the most out of the Canadian provinces. Ottawa has not taken anything off the table of retaliation, so it remains unclear what will be done.
