The House canceled Thursday’s votes and left early for summer recess due to a Capitol Hill standoff over Jeffrey Epstein files. GOP leaders pulled the plug after Democrats threatened procedural votes to force the Trump administration to release all remaining Epstein-related documents.

The move came after the Rules Committee, which sets floor debate, stalled over the issue. Without new rules passed, no additional bills could be voted on past Wednesday. The Epstein controversy has dominated Capitol Hill conversations in recent days. Some Republicans feared further attention could create political problems ahead of the break. The Justice Department added fuel to the issue by confirming a meeting between Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche and Epstein associate Ghislaine Maxwell. The early recess helps GOP leadership avoid further internal divisions on a sensitive topic.
