The European Union has considered a trade deal with the United States, which would lower its tariff rate to a flat 15% instead of the 30% that President Trump had planned.
In return, the EU must use more American energy and reduce their taxes on American imports. For the plan to be implemented, all 27 EU members must agree to it. That might not be easy, especially since some powerful nations disagree with it.
Both France and Germany have already expressed their displeasure with the proposal. German Chancellor Friedrich Merz stated that the deal would have a negative impact on both the European and American economies. The French Prime Minister, François Bayrou, has concurred with Berlin, claiming that the EU is bowing down to Washington and submitting to its influence. This plan appears to continue the trend of worsening American-European relations.
