Jamaica is making the push to become a republic.

Following in the footsteps of fellow West Indian nation Barbados, Jamaica might be close to ditching the monarchy. Marlene Malahoo Forte, the minister of Legal and Constitutional Affairs, has had legislation sent to the Jamaican House of Representatives that, if passed, would lay the groundwork for Jamaica becoming a republic. She stated that this process has been long overdue and that it is necessary to complete Jamaican independence from Britain. Jamaicans overall have been trending towards support of abolishing the monarchy, which the unfortunate passing of Queen Elizabeth the Second has exacerbated.
