Transnistria, a region not recognized by any member of the United Nations, has had to deal with a massive shortage of gas due to Ukraine ending its deal with Russia. In the deal, Ukraine would allow Russian gas to continue flowing through their country, with Russia in return paying a fee to them. This has keenly affected Transnistria, as they are a key Russian ally in the region. Moldova has offered Transnistria to buy European gas instead, but the breakaway state has rejected it. The lack of gas has caused thousands to go without electricity and the ability to heat their homes. As of now, the Transnistrian government expect that Russia will find a solution, and has urged citizens to use firewood as an alternative to Russian gas in the meantime.
