According to an NBC News Decision Desk poll powered by SurveyMonkey, more Americans are expressing concern of the economic performance of President Trump and his administration as the labor market shows signs of weakness, and tariffs drive up costs.

The poll, surveying 30,196 American adults from August 13th to September 1st, showed that the president holds an overall approval rating of 43%, roughly in-line with most polls taken over the past two weeks. However, the specific metric that shows concern for the administration is American approval of the economy; only 41% of Americans are satisfied with President Trump's handling of trade, while an even worse 39% are satisfied in his handling of inflation.
Another dangerous metric is the feelings of independents, with a mere 8% expressing positive feelings toward the actions of the Trump administration, with 56% reported feeling negatively of them.
These sentiments reflect the growing worry among Americans of the economy, facilitated by a poor jobs report last week showing very weak job growth and losses in manufacturing, federal government, and other kinds of jobs. In addition, prices have been shown to rise as a result of the PCE, PPI, and even CPI reports from July and August, which many experts correlate to aggressive tariff policy.
And, Americans are especially concerns about prices and inflation. A record 45% of American families believe "Inflation and the rising cost of living" is their most important economic matter, up significantly from healthcare costs, taxes, etc.
