South Korea Declares Martial Law

The democratic country of South Korea, known as a bastion of democracy, announced that it will be implementing martial law.

President Yoon Suk Yeol, a right-wing member of the People Power Party, warranted these laws on rising violence and opposition from the Democratic Party of Korea, which has been feared to have collaborated with North Korea in political attacks against the right.

Yoon has faced severe criticism from his maneuver. The Korean parliament could easily revoke his decree with a simple majority, much of whom are members of the opposition. Also, Yoon has faced threats of an impeachment trial due to his actions of unwarranted increases in the power of the presidency.

South Korea stocks are set to plummet today as threats internationally increase, with possible tariffs being enacted if martial law continues.
