The two leaders met calmly in the Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson in Anchorage Friday after months of constant attempts to break a meeting between them, the first attempt being in Saudi Arabia. Now, the leaders focused during the summit on reaching an agreement to a ceasefire for the ongoing war in Ukraine.

Trump, before the meeting, expressed moderate concerns for the meeting, stating that there was a "25% chance" that the meeting could fail and he could walk out from the summit with nothing. But, cautiously optimistic, he made history by attempting to reach a lofty resolution to the deadly war in Eastern Europe.

In the joint press conference following the meeting, Trump described the discussions as "very productive," noting that while a ceasefire agreement hasn't been finalized, significant progress between the two world superpowers was made. He did not one "significant" disagreement they had which was unnamed but assured that they agreed on most issues.

Putin, in his brief address to the press, expressed the strong historical bond between Russia and the United States, bringing up Russian Orthodoxy in Alaska and the Lend Lease Act during World War II.

Trump then promised to reach out to NATO officials as well as Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky before making his next move.

Generally, reporters and viewers at home saw the summit as a success, with both leaders' hopeful for a peaceful resolution to the conflict.
