President Donald Trump of the United States and President Vladimir Putin of the Russian Federation have finally kickstarted peace negotiations in Ukraine.

Previously ardently in favor of keeping the war going, Putin realized that with the ascension of Trump to the presidency in the United States, the time has come to finally make a peace plan in the Russo-Ukraine war.
Some time earlier this week, Trump and Putin sat down for a brief call in which they talked about the early stages of peace. While Putin's demands in the war remain unknown, Trump believes that he could get a bi-lateral agreement to be reached in which even Ukraine would accept.
However, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky remains confidence that his country could hold out for longer. He also does not want to give up the Donbass region and Southern Ukraine, areas which Russia now occupies and wants to have annexed.
If a deal was to be met, this would mark the immediate end of the 4-year-long conflict which resulted in hundreds-of-thousands of casualties on both sides. This could also have a similar effect on other conflicts, like the Israel-Palestine War, which could provoke peace agreements to be made elsewhere with the U.S. serving as oversight.
Both sides are hoping to negotiate more in a meeting in the near future.
