In a surprising foreign policy shift, Trump has appeared to change his stance on Ukraine. In a post on Truth Social, he stated that Ukraine is in good position to retake all their territory and win the war.
This does come with a caveat, however. He mentioned that Ukraine needed both NATO and the EU. This is a shock to many, as previously, Trump has claimed that Ukaine would be unable to recapture their territory and that concessions to Russia is inevitable.
While parts of Europe are more enthusiastic at Trump's change in tone, many are nervous that the United States will begin to distance themselves from the conflict, making it a purely European affair. Russia has already condemned the post, saying that Trump has restarted tensions and that the war will continue “to ensure our interests and achieve the goals”.
Trump has very clearly become extremly frustrated with how unreliable Russia is in negotiatng and sticking to its word. This is likely him sending the message that he will be playing hardball with the Kremlin for now.
