In his batch of 22 letters to several world countries today, Trump announced a 50% tariff on Brazil, one of America's closest trading partners for raw materials and other items, like coffee, soybeans, and iron ore.

Trump's threat to Brazil was due to the supposed unfair treatment of former Brazilian president Jair Bolsonaro, a very close ally of Donald Trump who, during Trump's first term, bonded with the president on conservative fiscal and social policy.

In 2022, Bolsonaro was voted out by the Brazilian populous to then-former president da Silva.

Bolsonaro has faced criminal charges on his alleged attempt of a coup d'état over the Brazilian federal government. He is currently on trial in Brazil's Supreme Court.

"This Trial should not be taking place," Trump wrote on Truth Social. "It is a Witch Hunt that should end IMMEDIATELY!"
