Queens assemblymember Zohran Kwame Mamdani has led the vast crowd of opponents in the New York City mayoral election, according to a new poll.

In the July 14th poll by Data for Progress, Mamdani maintained his first-place lead in the laundry-list field of candidates for the NYC mayoral race, congealing a 40% vote share leading up to November. Meanwhile, former governor Andrew Cuomo, who lost to Mamdani in the Democratic primary, secured a strong second place position at 24%. Incumbent Eric Adams has 15% of the vote while founder of the Guardian Angels obtained 14%. Independent Jim Walden lost his previously solid polling average as a minor candidate with roughly 1%.
Mamdani also has a very strong favorability rating in the general election with a 9% lead, 49-40. This easily outshines Cuomo's -20% favorability and Adams's -41% favorability.
This poll reflects a trend in most polling data showing how more members of the Democrat base have begun solidifying support for Zohran Mamdani despite being previously divided between him, Cuomo, and Adams. A previous poll has Mamdani securing a similarly large 41.3% vote share in the general election, with Cuomo's support being somewhat higher then.
However, what's most surprising is Adams's rise among Republican voters, who previously mostly supported their own nominee, Curtis Sliwa. Sliwa's vote margin has appeared to have fallen while Adams's remained stagnant, as Democratic losses contradicted Republican gains.
Mamdani has received the endorsements from key New York and New England politicians like Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Bernie Sanders, as well as the United Federation of Teachers.
He has received a number of criticisms lately from Republican politicians over his economic policy, particularly Vivek Ramaswamy who has labeled him as anti-capitalist while encouraging New Yorkers to move to Ohio.
