California Senator Alex Padilla has been detained by law enforcement in a press conference Thursday.

The chaotic scene occurred after Padilla interrupted Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem in her briefing with the press on Friday with a quote, "I am Senator Alex Padilla. I have questions for the secretary..." Immediately upon making those remarks, law enforcement jumped in and escorted Padilla out of the room. Padilla refused at first to cease his discourse, but ultimately capitulated just outside the room.
Instantly, a highly powerful movement of Democratic politicians expressed their resentment for the detainment. Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, Former Vice President Kamala Harris, and Senator Adam Schiff opposed the situation, calling for the invocation of the 1st amendment - free speech. Meanwhile, some Republicans criticized Padilla for interrupting a highly important press briefing while refusing to cease his interruptions for some time.

The nation is currently undergoing a serious wave of divisiveness as anti-ICE protests spread all across California and the country. President Trump's deployment of national guard troops prompted a sometimes hostile reaction from many Democrats, while Republicans downplayed their overuse of federal power to control majority peaceful protests.
