Donald Trump Just Got a Critical Endorsement

Former president Donald Trump just got a key endorsement from a powerful political figure.

On Friday afternoon, independent presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr., son of Robert F. Kennedy and nephew of John F. Kennedy, announced his complete endorsement of Donald J. Trump in the 2024 election cycle.

RFK Jr. was a Democrat running against Joe Biden who then switched his party affiliation to independent, and following poor showings in the polls, he dropped out of the race. Kennedy supports American pacifism, isolationism, tackling career politicians, handling big tech, and loosening vaccine mandates.

Due to his close policy similarities to Donald Trump, Kennedy preferred the former president over Democrat Kamala Harris. However, he also broke away from supporting Democrats because of the dangerous suppression by the media on his campaign. He cited Democrat-leaning media ruthlessly attacking him while praising his opponents, and his unwillingness to support the new Democratic Party, one which did not resemble the Democrats of the days of JFK or RFK Sr.

Why is this endorsement so crucial? Donald Trump already has endorsements from many key Democrats, so why is RFK Jr's so important?

Well, there is one easy reason, swing states. RFK Jr., despite performing poorly against Trump and Harris in the polls, consistently obtains between 4-7% of the vote in many key swing states which were extremely close in the 2020 Presidential Election such as Pennsylvania and Georgia. If RFK's support could shift to Trump, these measly 4-7 points could hand Trump to victory, as many of these states voted for each side by less than 1 point.

That being said, many RFK supporters will not support Trump, as many are liberals who dislike Kamala Harris but despise Donald Trump. If RFK could motivate his base, however, some of these defectors could switch to supporting Trump than, say, stay home. This could make Trump's victory truly possible.
