Zohran Kwame Mamdani has shown significant improvement, according to an Emerson mayoral poll. While Cuomo is considered the candidate in the lead, Mamdani is closing that gap extremely quickly. Mamdani's growth is shown to mostly come from ranked choice voting, which, when taken into account, puts him ahead of Cuomo. For anyone who is unfamiliar with ranked choice voting, it is a process of elimination, where candidates are removed from the ballot depending on whether they are in last place for the voter's first choice. The director of the poll highlighted Mamdani's improvement and commented on the fact that Cuomo's polling percentage remained stagnant. Cuomo's team has disputed Emerson's poll, calling it an "outlier," and states that Cuomo is still very likely to win. The mayoral polling stations are set to remain open until 9 pm EST, which gives plenty of time for the poll to be either proven correct or false.
