The current U.S. Senate delegation elected its next Senate majority leader, a Republican.

Republicans in the chamber of Congress voted for John Thune, a senator from North Dakota, to represent the general delegation.
This race was expected to be close, with Florida senator Rick Scott and Texas senator John Cornyn also running for the office. Yet, the majority of Republican senators designated Thune to be their leader.
Thune has been a member of Congress for almost 20 years. He is a very conservative Republican who has expressed his loyalty to president-elect Donald Trump.
