The SS United States has been planned to be docked in Florida for the final step of preparation before being scuttled. This, however, has not come to pass. The ship has been at the Philadelphia dock for decades now. So why has the Big U not been moved yet? It mostly comes down to the fact that she is not considered ready to move. The U.S. Coast Guard analyzed the ship, deciding she was not prepared to be moved yet. Okaloosa County, the new owner of the Ocean Liner, has agreed to listen to the Coast Guard and is in close contact with them. To keep the ship in the dock, they are paying the dock 3,400 each day and 100,000 due to the delay in the transport.
